Tracking DLB Symptoms Before Diagnosis: Are Men and Women Different?

Dr. Tanis Ferman, a NAPS Clinical Core investigator, co-authored a study exploring how dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) symptoms differ between men and women in the two years before diagnosis.

Using data from the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC), the study found that REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) appeared more often in men during this early stage of DLB. While NAPS data weren’t part of this study, NAPS participants’ data are shared through NACC—an invaluable public research resource.

As NAPS participants return for follow-ups, we’ll gain deeper insight into how sex may influence DLB risk in people with RBD.
