Unlocking Brain Health: New Study Explores Breakthrough MRI Technique for Early Parkinson’s Detection

New research from France highlights a promising brain scan technique – neuromelanin-sensitive MRI – that measures dopamine in a key brain region affected by Parkinson’s disease (PD).

In this study, genetic risk scores were linked to dopamine loss in people with PD, but not in those with REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD), possibly due to the smaller sample size.

Good news: NAPS has gathered neuromelanin-sensitive MRIs from a much larger group of RBD participants. Stay tuned as we work toward identifying early biomarkers to track or predict progression to PD which is crucial for future clinical trials and personalized care.
