RBD and The Road to Preventing Parkinson's
Did you know that physically acting out dreams could be an early warning sign for brain health?
While once seen as just a sleeping curiosity, scientists now recognize REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) as a critical early warning sign for synucleinopathies like Parkinson’s disease and Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB). Ongoing studies aim to better understand RBD and identify reliable biomarkers for predicting progression to Parkinsonism or cognitive decline.
At this year’s AD/PD conference in Copenhagen, researchers shared exciting progress in tracking this transition. The ultimate goal? To use the window provided by an RBD diagnosis to intervene and stop neurodegenerative diseases before their clinical symptoms even begin.
