Expanding Diagnostic Tools for iRBDThrough Actigraphy-Based Classifiers

Idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) is a sleep disorder where individuals act out vivid dreams due to impaired muscle control during REM sleep. It often precedes neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and dementia with Lewy bodies.

Diagnosing iRBD is challenging, as symptoms can be overlooked or misdiagnosed as other sleep disorders.

Recent research presented at the 2025 SLEEP Annual Meeting explored this breakthrough, offering hope for early intervention and monitoring solutions.

Emmanuel During, MD, an associate professor of neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, discussed the external validation of an actigraphy-based classifier for diagnosing iRBD and its implications for scalable neurodegenerative screening.
