Skin Deep Discovery

A simple skin swab could detect Parkinson’s up to 7 years before symptoms appear.

Researchers at The University of Manchester have identified unique chemical markers in sebum (the skin’s natural oil) that may serve as early warning signs of Parkinson’s, even in individuals with iRBD, a known precursor to the disease.

Inspired by “super smeller” Joy Milne, this non-invasive test could pave the way for earlier diagnosis, better monitoring, and improved patient outcomes.
